What does B2B lead generation look like in 2026?
B2B acquisition is a multi-stage process. A reply is not a qualification, a booked meeting is not an attended meeting, and a completed meeting is not a customer. In the 2026 6sense BDR study, sellers estimated that contacting 100 prospects produced 41 responses, 33 meaningful conversations and 23 attended meetings. Those are self-reported, mixed-channel estimates, not a universal prospecting conversion standard.
The 2025 6sense buyer study found that 95% of winning vendors already appeared on the buyer's initial shortlist. That helps explain why relevant expertise, visible proof and consistent follow-up should be considered alongside outreach mechanics. The best acquisition strategy is measured by qualified conversations and economic outcomes, not contact volume alone.

What percentage of B2B prospects respond to outreach?
BDRs estimated that 41 of every 100 prospects they attempted to contact responded in some way, including answered calls and messages. This mixed-channel survey estimate does not represent cold-email reply rates.
Verify at 6sense ↗How many contacted prospects have a meaningful sales conversation?
BDRs estimated around 33 meaningful conversations for every 100 prospects contacted, regardless of whether those conversations led to a favorable outcome.
Verify at 6sense ↗How many prospects attend a sales meeting?
BDRs estimated approximately 23 attended meetings for every 100 prospects contacted. These are attendance estimates, not customer conversion rates.
Verify at 6sense ↗How many follow-up touches do BDRs use per contact?
The average reported number rose to 34 touches per contact in 2026, compared with 21 in 2025 and 17 in 2024. More touches alone were not shown to cause higher quota attainment.
Verify at 6sense ↗What is inbound BDRs’ most effective response channel?
Approximately 55% of inbound BDRs named email as their best-performing response channel. This is a preference ranking among respondents, not an email response rate.
Verify at 6sense ↗Which channels do outbound BDRs find most effective?
Among outbound BDRs, 40% named phone and 36% named email as their most effective channel for generating responses. These figures do not measure the probability of a reply.
Verify at 6sense ↗How far through the buying journey do B2B buyers contact sellers?
The 2025 6sense buyer study placed first seller contact at about 61% of the buying journey, on average, for the surveyed purchase situations.
Verify at 6sense ↗How long does a B2B buying journey take?
In the 2025 6sense study, the average completed buying journey lasted 10.1 months. It should not be used as a universal average for small professional-service purchases.
Verify at 6sense ↗How often is the winning vendor shortlisted early?
The winning vendor was already on buyers’ initial shortlist in 95% of the 2025 6sense study's purchases, emphasizing the importance of visibility before direct sales contact.
Verify at 6sense ↗How widely do BDRs use AI tools in 2026?
In the 2026 6sense BDR study, 99% reported some AI use, up from 62% in 2025 and 53% in 2024. Adoption does not establish a causal improvement in sales.
Verify at 6sense ↗Do BDRs contact multiple stakeholders in an account?
In 2026, 91% of surveyed BDRs reported reaching out to multiple stakeholders within an account. The finding measures reported practice, not the success rate of that strategy.
Verify at 6sense ↗How many gated-content registrations occurred in 2025?
NetLine recorded 7.2 million first-party gated-content registrations in 2025 versus 7.9 million in 2024 on its own network. These totals do not measure membership funnel conversion or universal B2B demand.

Five questions founders should ask
What qualifies as a response?
A prospect answering a call or replying to a message is not necessarily interested or sales-qualified. Always distinguish contact, genuine curiosity, positive response, qualified conversation, booked meeting and attendance.
How much follow-up is appropriate?
BDRs reported more touches in 2026, but that should not be interpreted as evidence that repeating messages produces better results. Match timing and content to relevance, recipient preferences, consent and applicable email or privacy requirements. Respect opt-outs promptly.
Are meetings being counted consistently?
Track booked meetings separately from verified attendance, opportunity qualification and collected revenue. For comparability, publish a numerator, denominator, channel, measurement window and acceptance criteria.
Does AI increase results?
Adoption and user-reported productivity are not proof of additional sales. Use controlled comparisons and record time saved, contact quality, meaningful conversations and revenue per acquired customer.
How should research influence conversion?
Use statistics to identify plausible bottlenecks, then diagnose your own market. Someone else’s percentage does not predict your business's response rate or lead quality.
Methodology, source dates and limitations
TrustPros Research selected quantitative findings relevant to B2B prospecting, customer acquisition, buyer journey, qualification, meetings and content. Data were transcribed and paraphrased from the linked originating publishers. Figures represent their original sample and period, not TrustPros campaign results. Some values describe overlapping respondents; they must not be summed, averaged across studies, or treated as independent observations.
Latest editorial review: October 12, 2026. Research source years: 2025–2026. Primary publishers: 6sense (with MarketOne for BDR research), Content Marketing Institute / MarketingProfs, NetLine, and Salesforce. Not measured here: universal cost per lead, cold-email reply rates, TrustPros booking rate, ROI or a causal effect of AI.
The 6sense BDR responses include 490 complete and 382 partial responses, with differing sample sizes per finding. 6sense’s buyer research focuses on completed B2B purchases. CMI represents surveyed B2B marketers, often with different question-specific subgroups. NetLine figures cover its own platform. Salesforce metrics use respondents from its sales study and, where noted in its original page, other commissioned research. Consult original methodologies before quoting as universal benchmarks.
